Prerequisites: What you already have
Before we dive into the integration, let’s look at your current "analog" and "digital" setup. For this guide, we assume:
-
The Physical Gear: You have a Tap (or Picnic tap), a Keg, and a Beverage (your delicious beer). The beer is in the keg, and the keg is hooked up to the tap.
-
The Bar Helper Setup: In your Bar Helper app, you have already created:
-
A Beverage (e.g., "Test beer").
-
A Keg (the physical container, e.g., "Test keg").
-
A Tap (the faucet, e.g., "Test tap").
-
You have already assigned the Beverage to the Keg, and the Keg to the Tap.
-

Now, let's add the "brain" to the operation: The Plaato Keg.
Step 1: Initialize the Plaato Keg in Bar Helper
First, we need to tell Bar Helper that a new device is joining the family.
-
Open Bar Helper and go to Settings.
-
Select Plaato from the integration list.
-
Click the + (Plus) button to add a new Plaato Keg.
-
Name it: Give it a name that helps you identify the hardware (e.g., "Plaato Scale 1").
-
Click Next.

Step 2: Reset your Plaato Keg
Now we need to get the hardware online.
-
Turn your Plaato Keg upside down. Locate the reset slot.
-
Remove the key, and place it in the slot marked RESET
-
Let go and all three LEDs should begin to pulse.
Step 3: Link the Plaato Device to your Tap
-
Join the Plaato Network: On your phone or computer, open your Wi-Fi settings. Look for a network named
PLAATO_####. Connect to it. -
Configure Credentials: Once connected to the Plaato Wi-Fi, go back to the Bar Helper setup screen.
-
Enter your Home Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and Password.
-
Press Connect.
-
A success page will appear. Your Plaato Keg will now reboot and connect to your home network, and your phone should automatically switch back to your regular Wi-Fi.
- Close this web page, so you can return to Bar Helper.
- You should now see the new settings page for the current Plaato Keg. If it does not appear instantly, don't worry, we come back to this later.

Step 4: Link the Plaato Device to your Tap
The scale is now online, but Bar Helper needs to know which "Keg" is sitting on top of it.
-
Go to the Taps page in Bar Helper.
-
Select the Tap you want to automate (e.g., "Test tap").
-
Inside the Tap settings, look for the Plaato Keg dropdown menu.
-
Select the name of the Plaato device you just created (e.g., "Plaato Scale 1").
-
Save your changes.

Step 5: The "Force Sync" Test
To make sure everything is talking correctly, you can trigger a manual update.
-
The Physical Test: Press down firmly on your Plaato Keg (apply about 1kg of pressure) and release quickly. This "pours" a ghost beer in the eyes of the sensor and forces it to sync with the cloud.
-
The Result: Check your Bar Helper dashboard. You should see the volume of your "Left Tap" update automatically!

Step 6: Calibration is Key
- For the most accurate readings, ensure you have calibrated the Plaato Keg, Empty Weight (Tare). Go to the Plaato within the settings, press START SETUP to begin the tare process. This ensures that the weight is on a flat surface, and there is nothing on top of the Plaato Keg.
- Press CALIBRATE, the system takes the current reading from the weight and tare it.
- You will now see a negative number the same as current weight of the Plaato.
Step 7: Calibrate the Keg Tare Weight
For precise tracking, Bar Helper needs to know the "Tare" (empty) weight of your keg.
- Fovigate to Inventory > Kegs and select your active keg.
- Locate the Netto Weight field.
- Enter the weight of the keg when it is completely empty. This allows the Plaato scale to subtract the weight of the steel and measure only the liquid inside

Step 8: Configure Final Gravity (FG)
Because heavier beers (like Imperial Stouts) weigh more than lighter ones (like Pilsners), the Final Gravity (FG) affects volume calculations.
- Navigate to Inventory > Beer and select your current beer.
- Locate the FG (Final Gravity) field.
- Enter your beer's FG (e.g., 1.012). Bar Helper will use this to convert weight into an exact volume.

Happy Tapping! Now you can sit back, relax, and watch your inventory manage itself. Your Bar Helper On-Tap TV will now show live levels, so you'll always know exactly when it’s time to brew the next batch.
