What has changed

The BarHelper Plaato server has moved to a new IP address. Every Plaato Keg connected to BarHelper must be set up again before it can send data to the new server.

The Plaato Keg stores the server address on the device itself, so this cannot be updated from our side. The fix only takes a few minutes per keg: update the app, reset the device, reconnect it to your Wi-Fi from the app, and check that readings come through.

Who needs to do this

Everyone using the Plaato Keg integration in BarHelper Premium needs to reconfigure every Plaato Keg they own. If you have several kegs, repeat the steps below for each one.

Until a keg is reconfigured, it cannot reach the new server. Keg volume, weight, temperature and pour notifications for that keg will stop updating, and Latest sync on the Display tab will stay stuck at the time of the last successful update.

New to Plaato in BarHelper? Our earlier post, Use Plaato Keg with Bar Helper, covers the first-time setup.

Before you start: update BarHelper⚠️

Make sure you are on the latest version (8.1.13 or greater) of BarHelper before you reconfigure your kegs. Older versions of the app don't know about the new server address. If your app is not updated, use the web version at https://barhelper.app

  • iPhone/iPad: update BarHelper from the App Store.
  • Android: update BarHelper from Google Play.
  • Prefer not to update? Use the web app at barhelper.app instead. It always runs the latest version.

Step 1: Reset your Plaato Keg and reconnect it

Everything you need is on the Setup tab of the Plaato device in BarHelper.

  1. Open BarHelper, go to your Plaato device and select the Setup tab in the segment control below the title.
  2. Follow the Guide at the bottom of the tab to reset the Plaato Keg. It walks you through each step with images and a how-to video:
    1. Connect power to the Plaato Keg.
    2. Remove the reset key.
    3. Use the reset key to reset the device.
    4. Connect your phone or computer to the device's own Wi-Fi network, named PLAATO-#####.
  3. While connected to the PLAATO-##### network, fill in the form at the top of the Setup tab:
    • SSID – the name of the Wi-Fi network the keg should join.
    • Password – the password for that network.
  4. Tap Connect. A progress bar shows while the credentials are sent to the device. If something goes wrong, the error is shown below the form.
  5. Reconnect your phone or computer to your normal Wi-Fi network.

The Plaato Keg will now join your Wi-Fi and start talking to the new BarHelper server.

Step 2: Check that it works

Open the Realtime tab to confirm the keg is talking to the new server.

  1. Wait for the connection status badge to show that the device is connected. A spinner shows while it connects.
  2. Check that Current Weight and the Realtime data (weight, temperature and pouring status) update, and that the time of the last update is recent.
  3. If you see an error message, tap Refresh. Still no luck? Give the keg a minute to join your Wi-Fi and try again.

Step 3: Re-check your settings

A reset can clear the settings stored on the Plaato hardware itself, so take a quick look at the Configure tab:

  • Tare empty Plaato – check that the empty keg weight is still correct. If needed, put the empty keg on the scale and tap Use current weight, or use Tare from current weight on the Realtime tab.
  • Plaato sensitivity – pick your preferred value (Very Low, Low, Medium or High) and tap Send to Plaato.
  • Temperature offset – enter your correction value and tap Send to Plaato.

Finally, open the Display tab and check that Latest sync shows a fresh time and that the keg volume looks right.

Troubleshooting

  • Can't find the PLAATO-##### network – the reset didn't complete. Run through the reset steps in the Guide again.
  • Connect fails on the Setup tab – double-check the SSID and password; both are case-sensitive. Make sure the keg is within good range of your router.
  • Connected, but no data – check Wifi Signal Strength on the Display tab. A weak signal can cause dropped readings; moving the router or keg closer often helps.
  • Weight or volume looks off – re-tare the empty keg weight as described in Step 3.

Sorry for the hassle, and thanks for brewing with BarHelper! Cheers! 🍻
